Rajkot: Gujarat is all set to get its first Golden Temple. Barely 125 km from Ahmedabad, the Gopinathji Dev Mandir, popularly known as Gadhada Swaminarayan Mandir, has got goldplated spires. Around 70 kg of gold worth nearly Rs 21 crore have been used to plate the spires.
The temple on the banks of the Ghelo river, managed by the Gopinathji Dev Mandir Trust, will be thrown open on May 6.
“The work started around two years ago and was completed successfully. A special event will be held on May 6 in the presence of Nrugendra Prasad Maharaj and the golden temple will be formally opened that day,” S P Swami of Gopinathji Mandir told TOI.

The Gopinathji Dev Mandir in Gadhada near Bhavnagar himself had built this temple and it is very special for us,” Swami said.
He added, “This is a matter of faith for us. There are many fond memories of Lord Swaminarayan associated with this temple.’’ As many as 1,500 to 2,000 devotees visit the temple daily. On the day of poonam (full moon), nearly 40,000 people come to pay obeisance here.
